The LZ 127 Zeppelin was the most successful and important type of Zeppelin airship of all time. It marked a historic milestone that could never be equaled. From 1900 to 1938, the Zeppelin Company GmbH constructed over one hundred airships, in 27 distinct varieties. The largest, the LZ 129, was 245 meters in length, 41.2 meters in diameter and had a 200,000 m3 gas volume; four Daimler diesel engines with 4,200 PS powered the ship at a maximum speed of 131 km/h over distances of up to 12,000 kilometers, carrying passengers, mail and freight.
